At
Burnside Bungalows we have designed the accommodation to suit the climate
and make use of natural energy. The bungalows face north and catch the
winter sun, making them warm in winter while verandahs make them cool
in summer. Slow combustion wood heaters make the bungalows warm and cosy
in the colder months.
Margaret River has a mild maritime climate and the temperature rarely
reaches uncomfortable levels making air conditioning unnecessary.
Only
recycled and plantation pine timber was used in constructing the luxury
spa bungalows. Jamie sourced the timber from salvage yards and it includes
oregon roof beams from an old warehouse in East Perth as well as Western
Australian jarrah and blackbutt. Deep red local gravel was used to form
the rammed earth walls. Granite rock in the garden beds came from a local
vineyard where it was removed to allow planting of the vines. Rainwater
is collected from the roof to supply the bungalows and all waste-water
is treated in an on-site sewerage plant and recycled onto the gardens.
Our farm is fully certified organic
and biodynamic. This allows us to market our produce through organic suppliers
and means there are no pesticides, herbicides or artificial chemicals
used in producing food on the farm.
We have fenced off remnant vegetation
and replanted areas to encourage native birds and wildlife. Every year
we plant more trees on the property. There are abundant birds, bandicoots,
possums and many kangaroos that live on or visit the property from the
forest.

| We
encourage recycling at the bungalows and food scraps can be given
to our chickens.
Where possible we use locally made products.
At Burnside Bungalows
we encourage our guests to relax, enjoy the natural environment
and walk one of the many tracks in the adjacent forest.
